Adeline “Addie” Clara Martin (nee Gnadt) died peacefully on May 14, 2022 at River Crossing of St. Charles, St. Charles, IL. Born October 6, 1926 in St. Nazianz, WI, she is predeceased by her parents, John and Olive (Mary) Gnadt of St. Nazianz, WI, her siblings, George (Lauretta) Gnadt, Marie (John) Domagalski, Alois “AJ” (Veronica) Gnadt, Frances Gnadt, Leona Gnadt, Bernard (Theresa) Gnadt, John (Marie) Gnadt, Ruth Gnadt and Jerome (Barbara) Gnadt, husband, Robert “Bob” Martin of Cortland, OH; and nephews and niece, Mark Gnadt, Gregory Gnadt and Ann Gnadt. A kind and generous woman, Addie was known for her practicality, forthrightness, grace, and humor. Addie graduated cum laude from Valders High School in May 1944, and was an infant nurse, receiving her training at St. Vincent’s Orphanage in Chicago, IL before her marriage. She worked as a clinic coordinator at the University of Chicago Lying-In Hospital for 29 years. After her retirement and the death of her husband, Addie moved to Brookfield, IL. She was involved in church activities, enjoyed reading, latch hook projects, crossword puzzles and spending time with friends. Addie then relocated to Chicago and lived in an independent senior community, where she had many friends. She recently became a resident of River Crossing of St. Charles. Addie is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Martin and Elizabeth McNeely, three grandchildren, Paula, Ian and Julie McNeely and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 18 at Sanctuary Church, 15430 Wenmouth Rd. Batavia, IL. A burial will take place in St. Nazianz, WI at a future time. |
