St. Mark's Episcopal Church Geneva

April 11, 1932 - February 18, 2017

Doris K. Stickle, age 84, of St. Charles was called home to the Lord on Saturday,
February 18, 2017.
She was born on April 11, 1932 in Madison, Wisconsin. Her parents were Dr. George
and Julia (Ball) Kopp. The youngest of three children, her siblings were Dr. Joseph Blair
Kopp and Kathleen Louis (Kopp) Kleinkopf.
She met her husband of 62 years, Fred O. Stickle, September 1941 (fourth grade) when
they lived in Leonia, NJ. They have three children: Susan (Stickle) Aichele, Carol
(Stickle) Anderson, and Larry Stickle. There are eight grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren.
She graduated as valedictorian in 1950 from Leonia High School. She was active in
cheerleading, choir, clubs, and sports. Doris received her BS RN degree from Cornell’s
New York Hospital School of Nursing. She spent several years working in a hospital and
then as a school nurse. Her calling during her years as a school nurse was counseling
middle school students when they visited her office.
She will best be remembered for her faith and volunteer work at church. She was an
elder in the Presbyterian Church. Over the years, she worked with youth groups and
taught adult education classes. An article in the Wednesday, March 12, 1975 edition of
the St. Charles Chronicle said this about Doris, “She radiates the kind of calm that comes
from living a life of commitment.” This commitment led her to accept the job as Parish
Coordinator at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles in 1975. She continued to
share her faith as a charter member of Hosanna! Lutheran Church. As a member of St.
Mark’s Church for nearly 25 years, Doris continued to serve in the church office as
treasurer of the Heritage Campaign and was responsible for the parish database for many
years. Father Mark Tusken of St. Mark’s viewed Doris as “an inspiration to many
individuals in the parish who she knew through her activities in Bible studies and
fellowship events.”
Her parents and her siblings preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s Church in Geneva on Saturday, February
25 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Mark’s
Church. For more information please call Yurs Funeral Home 630=-584-0060 or
