Deborah C. Anderson
November 13, 1951 - August 4, 2021 Deborah “Debby” C. Anderson, 69, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at her home in Batavia, Illinois. Survived by her daughter Angela Weaser Yandel (Dan), her brother Tommy Haas, and her niece Marla Moreno (Matt), Debby leaves behind many devoted friends as well as hundreds of wild birds that visited her well-stocked feeders on S Water St in Batavia for the last 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dogs Dakota and Lucy. Born November 13, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio to Lewis and Carmen (née Conover) Haas, Debby spent her childhood in Dayton and Chicago before moving to the Chicago suburbs in the mid 1960s. She worked as a butcher, a taxi driver, a floral delivery driver, a seamstress, and a housecleaner before moving to Batavia in 1980 to open up the Gammon Corner Tea Room with her friend and business partner, Nancy Coates. In addition to the restaurant, the two women operated a fine catering business for a number of years before Debby began working as a bookkeeper for Morrison & Associates where she worked for over 30 years. An excellent seamstress in addition to being a gourmet cook, Debby was passionate about and excelled in many areas and was an avid gardener and bird watcher. She traveled the United States extensively and took several trips abroad. In recent years, she combined her love of travel with her passion for bird watching and made numerous expeditions (Key West, Alaska, Mexico, Thailand, and elsewhere). A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Debby’s name to the Illinois Audubon Society, https://illinoisaudubon.org/donate.
