May 22, 1939 - May 26, 2017
John L. Cassani of Geneva, IL passed away at GreenFields of Geneva on May 26 after a long illness. He formerly lived in DeKalb and Galena, IL.
Born on May 22, 1939 in Danville, IL, John earned his bachelor’s and master’s from Eastern Illinois University. For the four decades he called DeKalb home, John built his career in the DeKalb School District—beginning as a teacher of industrial arts, and then moving into the counseling field. A highlight of John’s commitment to education was his leadership in the creation of the Kishwaukee Education Consortium. In partnership with DeKalb County, this innovative program enables high school students to earn college credit for a wide range of trade skills, which they can apply toward their continued studies at Kishwaukee Junior College. The KEC is still thriving today.
John met the love of his life Judy (Jividen) when as teachers they were assigned to the same lunch duty. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on May 2nd. John’s greatest pride were his two daughters Christine Cassani McFadden (Drew), and Cathy Cassani Adams (Todd), and his five grandchildren: Madeline and Maxwell McFadden, and Jacey, Camryn and Skylar Adams. John’s sister-in-law Peggy Jividen held a truly special place in his life, and his heart.
John was an eternal optimist, a life-long lover of sailing, and a deeply kind man who was always generous with his trademark smile or a warm hug. Family and friends will gather for a celebration of life on Saturday, June 3rd from 1pm-5pm, with a memorial service beginning at 4 pm. It will be held at Yurs Funeral Home of Geneva 1771 W State Street, Geneva, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Kishwaukee Education Consortium. John’s leadership and vision created the KEC, and his dedication to career and tech education continues to serve so many students today. Kiswaukee Education Consortium, 21255 Malta Rd
