Evelyn V. Lootens

Evelyn V.  Lootens, 100, a long-time resident of Batavia, died Sunday, May 15^th at River Glen of St. Charles. She was born July 22, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois to David and Jennie Nelson. Following the untimely death of her father, her mother married John Werdin, who adopted Evelyn and David. 

After graduating from St. Charles High School, she was employed by Geneva Kitchens, Geneva. Following her marriage, she and her husband were dairy farmers on the wood farm located east of Batavia. After raising her children, she was employed through retirement at George Ball Seed Company, West Chicago.

Evelyn was a proud parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church of Batavia where she was a member of the Catholic daughters of America. She was also a member of the former Farm Bureau Women’s Group and was active in helping school children to learn about farming. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening as well as pickling. She also loved to make braided coffee cakes, apple crisp, butterscotch pie, and bread. An annual highlight for her was baking Christmas cookies with her granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Edward Lootens Sr. and by a grandson, Chad Lootens. She is survived by her brother, David Werdin (Lynette), three sons, Edward Jr. (Emilia), Philip (Mary), and Robert (Kathie) and one daughter, Mary Gould (Steven), 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday May 22, 2022, at Moss Family Funeral Home 209 South Batavia Avenue, Batavia, IL 60510.

Funeral services will begin 10:00 A.M Monday, May 23, 2022, from Moss Family Funeral Home, Batavia before proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 West Main Street, Batavia, IL to celebrate Mass at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Jonathan Bakkelund will officiate. Interment will follow in River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia.
