SERVICE INFORMATION FOR
Joan Martha (Strobert) Ryan from Elburn IL, age 83 died February 2nd 2017 at Asbury Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in North Aurora IL. She passed away peacefully due to natural causes.
Joan (pronounced Jo Ann) was born March, 19th 1933 in rural Sugar Grove IL. Her parents were Charles Ralph and Martha Rebecca Delilah (Frank) Strobert. She was the youngest of 5 children her siblings were; Lorraine (Strobert) Williams, Uvadalia (Strobert) Braddy, Lester Strobert, Harley Strobert.
She grew up in Elburn attending Elburn schools until age 16 when she met Eugene Charles Ryan and married and began to raise her family. Fifty years later, 1999, she returned to school to obtain her GED at age 66.
Eugene and Joan had 7 children; Holly Joan (Ryan) Anderson, Nancy Jean (Ryan) Whitlow, Eugene Charles Ryan JR. (Chuckie), Deborah Ann (Ryan) Kennedy, Diane Martha (Ryan) Larson, Bradley Eugene Ryan, Christopher Charles Ryan. There are 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, also her son Chuckie (1953) and Deborah (2016).
Before Marrying Eugene, Joan worked at Carlson’s in Elburn and spent a lot of time babysitting. She had mentioned to her family that she was tired of watching other people’s kids and wanted to watch her own. So she began her own family in 1949 and did quite well. She and Eugene lived in Elburn and became a farm family in the early 1950’s and lived the farming life on a few different farms over there long and loving marriage of 67 years. Eugene and Joan returned to live in Elburn in 2000. Eventually they moved to an assisted living facility in North Aurora (2015). That is where she lived until she passed. Eugene still resides there today.
Joan will be remembered for her sense of humor and her laugh that could be described as a cackle. Another great love of her life, besides Eugene and her family and friends, was music. She was always whistling and singing. She had a lovely singing voice and loved to sing at church and at home. She could also whistle along with any tune that she heard. She could also whistle like a cardinal and get them to respond too. Another bird she could communicate with was our old Tom Turkey on the farm. Old Tom would come back from the field when she called him.
Joan and Eugene took great care of their family who felt loved and provided for.
From the Kids:
Mom you are now in heaven with Debbie and Chuckie, I know this makes you happy. Thank you for making our family and home a loving giving and fun place to grow up. We would not have had it any other way. You and Dad molded us into the strong independent, hardworking and loving people we are today. That comes directly from you both. Thank you so much for being our parents! We will miss you every day and love you so much!
