Joseph Prignano, who usually went by Joe, Joey or in recent years Sifu, passed peacefully to the other side on Thursday, May 11th, 2017. Joe was fondly known by many nieces and nephews as the funny or crazy Uncle Joe. On one hand, he would do anything to make them laugh and on the other, encourage them to learn and become the best they could be. He claimed to be born at an early age on January 6th, 1954, as the first child of Marjorie and Fred Prignano.

Joe was an avid reader with his passion being history. He enjoyed a good discussion on politics and never hesitated to write letters to those who wronged the little guy. His laughter was infectious and witty remarks were never in short supply.

Joe graduated from Holy Cross High School in River Grove, IL in 1972. In 1974, he met his bride to be, Liz Dye, but held out until 1981 before tying the knot. Together they have been residents of St Charles since 1994. In 2009, Joe co-founded South Elgin Budokan where he built on his many years of martial arts training since his childhood. He taught Tai Chi and Kung Fu and endeared himself to his students as Sifu, and they to him as eager students of martial arts.

He is survived by his wife Liz, his father Fred (Christine) Prignano, sister Kathy (Tom) Fowler, brother Jeff Prignano, sister Kim Imundo, along with many nieces and nephews across the country. He was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice in his honor is welcomed by his family.
