Joane Cathleen Kilroy
 July 13, 1944 - January 7, 2021 Joane Cathleen Kilroy, 76, of St. Charles passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021. Her life began July 13, 1944 in Chicago, IL, the first daughter to Carl and Grace (Newton) Gillstrom. Joane spent her early years in Chicago before the family settled in Bensenville. She attended local schools and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. She took additional classes in secretarial studies after high school and went to work with her dad at what was known then as ComEd in Chicago. Joane always wanted to be a mom and married Timothy “Tim” Kilroy on February 10, 1968. The temperature that day, as she often reminded us, was ten below zero. She and Tim raised five children, all whom have survived her: Heather (David) Stevenson, Hollie (Bob Huffman) Kilroy, Brendan Kilroy, Brian (Jennifer) Kilroy and Jon (Kelli Lane) Kilroy. Once Joane had all of her children off to school full-time, she went back to work, joining the St. Charles Public Library. She worked there for 20 years and read possibly half of the contents of the fiction section. She retired in time to enjoy numerous road trips with Tim, zipping around the USA in the Camaro. Her children have fond memories of her reading to them; making them read; her typing late-night, last-minute school papers for them; and her crazy addiction to tea. Joane was active at St. John Neuman Catholic Church in St. Charles as well, singing in the choir for a time and actively attending classes and services. Joane is also survived by her sister, Marsha Doyle; two grandchildren, Alan and Nora Stevenson; and countless grandpets. She is preceded in death by her husband Timothy; her parents Carl and Grace Gillstrom; and her two brothers, Brian Gillstrom and Mark Gillstrom. Private funeral services (due to CDC guidelines) will be held at St. John Neumann Church in St. Charles. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside. There will be a celebration of Joane’s life in the future when we all can safely join together again. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation in Joane Kilroy’s name may be made to the St. Charles Public Library.
