John Francis Meitl
March 1, 1949 - January 19, 2021 John Francis Meitl passed away on January 19, 2021. After a long battle, John left us knowing he was loved by many. He was born on March 1, 1949 to Francis Ernest and Lydia (Arredondo) Meitl. There are so many fond memories of John, it’s hard to summarize in a few words. John will be remembered for being an easygoing, kind and generous person. He was the eldest of eight children, our Big Brother, he led the pack. Our memories include Cub Scouts, marbles, baseball in the field next door, kick-the-can or being at the bottom of a pile-on. At a young age John worked for the City of St. Charles as a truck driver, thus jump starting his ‘gear head’ passion from 18 wheelers to Harley Davidson motorcycles. John honorably served our country during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany. He had a great career and many fond stories to share when he worked for Jan at Prime, Tack and Seal. After he retired, John could often be found at the Boat having fun on the tables. Toward the end of his life, he returned to his Family where we all had an opportunity to love and care for him. We bid a fond farewell to John but embrace his Spirit. On earth John was a light to us; in Spirit may his light continue. John will always be remembered in our thoughts, prayers and our memories. John is preceded in death by ‘Bud,’ his beloved Father and Mary Bonier, his loving partner for many years. John is survived by his mother, Lydia and his 7 siblings Tom (Debbie) Meitl, Bob (Carol) Meitl, Tina (Art) Marquez, Marty (Denise) Meitl, Lisa, Joe (Cheryl) Meitl, and Jesse Meitl. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Family held Services privately. When it is safe to gather, the Family intends to have a memorial gathering to honor John.
