Alice Lou Porter “Billie to her friends” , age 89 of St. Charles died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 16, 1928 in Chicago. She was the 2nd daughter of the late Albert and Amelia Peterson. After graduating from St. Charles High School (George Thompson High School), Alice worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. as an operator in Chicago. She married George Porter on April 22, 1950, and raised two boys, enjoying her lifelong friends the “Clubbies”, painted, knitted, and enjoyed her grandkids and great grandkids. She was the best “Mema” to her grandkids, always teaching, playing , crafting, hosting “kid days” and fun filled sleepovers. She was a member of St. Mark’s Church, teaching Sunday school for 45 years.

She is survived by her sons; Richard (Mary) Porter, Gary (Karen) Porter, grandchildren; Adam, Raegan, Maggie (Charles) McGrath, Nicholas (Alanna), Jack and George (Max), great-grandchildren; Charlie McGrath and George Porter “Boomer” McGrath.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Porter, her parents, sister Dorothy Garlinger, brother in law Harold Garlinger, sister Alberta Rebensdorf, brother in law Leonard Rebensdorf.

A Memorial Visitation will be 10-11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 10, 2017 followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 10, 2017, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 101 S. 6th Avenue, St. Charles, IL 60174. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
