Richard Ernest Wagner

Richard E. Wagner, 90, a lifelong resident of Batavia passed away April 14, 2022, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva. He was born May 24, 1931, in Batavia, IL the son of Richard Orin and Katherine (Anguish) Wagner. He was united in marriage to Patricia Gillispie November 25, 1950, in Trinity Episcopal Church in Aurora.

Richard was a 1949 graduate of Batavia High School. He was a great athlete who played football and was also a talented musician. In his later years he became an accomplished Bagpiper. Richard was a proud and honorable member of the United States Army where he retired May 24, 1991, at a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked many years as a carpenter in Batavia and the surrounding area. Richard loved his community, his many friends he met for coffee, and his volunteer work. He served as a docent at the Batavia Depot Museum and was a member of the Batavia VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed travel with his wife Patricia and spending time with his son and daughter-in-law in Florida. Richard will be remembered as kind gentleman who took great interest in people, his country and community.

He is survived by his one son, Richard (Jeanne) Wagner of Venice, FL and two grandsons, Derek (Jennifer) Cordes and Neil Cordes.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his daughter Kathy Cordes and a sister Susan Soderdahl. 

A graveside funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. May 4, 2022, at East Batavia Cemetery, Route 25 in Batavia, IL.
