Robert C. Haase Jr.

Robert C. Haase Jr. October 14, 1935 - February 8, 2021

Robert C. Haase Jr. passed away at his home in St. Charles, IL on February 8th, 2021 following a short battle with cancer. During his final weeks he was surrounded by family and faced his illness with the same dignity and courage that he showed his entire life.

Born in St. Louis, MO, Bob was raised by his parents Robert C. Haase Sr and Ruth (Augustine) Haase in Arlington Heights, IL and Elgin IL.  He graduated from Elgin High School in 1953 and Northern Illinois University in 1957.  It was during those years he met the love of his life, Barbara (Lazansky) Haase.  They were married in 1958 and spent 63 years together.

Bob worked for the Aetna Casualty & Surety Co.  for 34 years and was able to enjoy a long retirement.  He was also a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1958-1962 which included a recall to active duty in 1962 during the Berlin Wall Crisis.  Bob loved his country and was proud to serve.  He enjoyed all sports, was an avid Chicago Bears and Northern Illinois football fan and spent many years volunteering as a youth baseball coach in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan and Simsbury, Connecticut where the family resided during the 1970s and 1980s.

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara and his three sons and their spouses – John and Michelle of Charlotte, NC, Craig and Nancy of Fort Mill, SC, and Jay and Erika Bartlett of Hampshire, IL.   His grandchildren knew him as “Papa”- Elizabeth and her husband Forrest Smith of Raleigh, NC, Caroline and her husband Ryan Markwood of Richmond, VA, Susannah and her fiancé Matt Biggs of Wilmington, NC, Patrick of Boston, MA, and Lydia of Charlotte, NC.  His grandchildren were the joy of his retirement years.  Videography was his passion and he always enjoyed putting together videos of various family gatherings.    Bob is also survived by his sister Deborah Argo of Clayton, CA and was predeceased by his brother Richard Haase of Orinda, CA.

The family would like to thank Vitas Healthcare for their kind and compassionate care during the final weeks. Burial services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
