Ruth Violet Wood Lindgren

Ruth Violet Wood Lindgren September 22, 1925 - March 2, 2021

Ruth Violet Wood Lindgren, 95, passed away on March 2, 2021 at her home in St. Charles. The youngest of five, she was born on September 22, 1925 in St. Charles to John and Hilda (nee Jenson) Johnson.

An alumna of St. Charles High School, she went to work in Chicago as a waitress and in an office after school. She returned home to St. Charles to care for her mother, who passed away in 1952. She then was employed at the Howell Company, furniture manufacturers located in St. Charles and Geneva.

She was married on March 12, 1954 to David J. Wood in Chicago. They moved to David’s summer home in northern Minnesota to start their family. David died unexpectedly in 1957, causing Ruth to return to St. Charles. She found work in the drapery department of Sears, Roebuck and Co. and was able to build a home in Geneva. Eventually she worked at Personnel Materials Co., starting as an office worker and working her way up to vice president before her retirement.

She was married to Leonard W. Lindgren on December 5, 1981. They were happily married until Leonard’s passing on July 12, 1991. Ruth was a faithful member of the Global Missions Church of Geneva. In 2006, it was time to downsize and Ruth moved to a duplex located in Batavia. 2018 saw her enter Autumn Leaves Memory Care in St. Charles, where she enjoyed playing Bingo.

Ruth is survived by her sons David Wood Jr. of Elburn and Robert (Sandra) Wood of Kingston; grandchildren Jennifer Wood of St. Charles, Jonathon Wood of Genoa, Jessica Wood (J.P. Sweeney) of Sycamore, James (Kimberly) Wood of Hampshire, and Joshua Wood of Sycamore. She also leaves her greatgrandchildren Easton and Lily Wood and a niece, Linda Johnson, of Elgin.

She is preceded in death by her siblings Astrid, Margaret, Mildred and Harold Johnson of St. Charles and Geneva.

Ruth's family wishes to thank Dr. Karim Tourk and the excellent staffs of Autumn Leaves and Suncrest Hospice for the outstanding care they gave to her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 9, 2021 at Moss Family Funeral Home St. Charles 100 S. 3rd St. from 8:45AM – 10:45AM. A Funeral Service will be held promptly at 10:45AM. Interment will take place at Union Cemetery in St. Charles.
