Her zest for life was her legacy. Sylvia Mary Aversano, 97, passed peacefully, with her two daughters, Barbara Badolato and Rosemary Mackey, at her bedside.
Sylvia was born of Polish heritage on November 26, 1918 in New York to Stanley and Rosalie (Mascale) Muzyka. She was married to her beloved husband, Anthony Aversano, for 40 years, lovingly nursing him at the end of his life as he battled ALS and died in 1989.
She was pre-deceased by her brother John Muzyka and sister-in-law Florence; sister Frances Lenz and brother-in-law Louis; and is survived by brother William Muzyka and sister-in-law Lenore.
Sylvia has two devoted son-in-laws, Robert Badolato and Robert Mackey, and when pressed to choose her favorite, would always answer with a twinkle in her eye, “That’s easy, it’s Bob.”
She had a special place in her heart for each of her three grandsons and their spouses, Christopher and Themes Badolato, Rob and Kristen Mackey and Kyle and Lindsay Mackey; her granddaughter Lauren Badolato; and her two great grandchildren, Isabelle and Gabriella.
Her family was always at the center of her life and she made a lasting imprint through her caring lifelong vocation as wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
A resident of Tower Hill Healthcare Center in South Elgin, IL for the past 7 years, Sylvia was known for the joy she found in music. She delighted those around her by singing her own renditions of songs by Andre Bocelli, Louie Prima or some combination of both. She considered staff at the facility as her extended family and they treated her the same way.
Although no longer with us, Sylvia Aversano’s light will shine for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Sylvia Aversano made to:
