Shirley Marie Chmelar

Shirley Marie Chmelar December 30, 1940 - November 16, 2020

Shirley Marie Chmelar passed away peacefully at home on November 16, 2020 in St. Charles.  She was born on December 30, 1940 in Harvey to George and Margaret (nee Dunlop) Armond. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Chmeler on June 1, 1963 in Homewood at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Shirley will be remembered for her work ethic. She always put 100 percent of herself into her work. She was an integral part helping build the family business, AC Precision Tool, taking up multiple roles in the process. She also held a full- time job at Eagle Foods and during this all, she raised two sons and kept the home together. In addition, she was an essential part of raising her granddaughter, Jamie Chmelar, spending valued time together which helped shape Jamie into the remarkable young woman she is today. During her retirement, she embraced the yard, taking care of the grass, trees, and landscaping. If you ever needed to find her, check the yard first. She was fiercely independent, living and caring for herself all the way until her passing.

Shirley is survived by her son David (Christine) Chmelar, three granddaughters: Jamie (Mike) Love, Paige Chmelar, and Addison Chmelar, and her sister Pat (The late Fred) Fischer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, her brother George, and her son James.

Visitation will be held at Moss Family Funeral Home 100 South 3rd St. St. Charles on Friday November 20, 2020 at 9:00 AM. A funeral service will begin promptly at 11 AM. Interment will occur at Whitney Cemetery in Campton Hills.
