December 16, 1969 - December 30, 2016
Robert “Bobby†Giffey, age 47, a resident of St. Charles, Il., died unexpectedly on Friday, December 30, 2016, at home. He was born December 16, 1969, in Oak Lawn, Il. Bobby attended Fremd High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. While in high school, he earned his Eagle Scout Badge. Later during college Bobby was in the Army Reserves, serving as a medic.
After 20 years as a union electrician (Local 134), Bobby turned to what he loved: cooking. He spent the past six years as a chef because he believed that the greatest, kindest act you could do for someone is feed him. It brought him great joy to cook for his family, friends, and customers. He also loved playing pranks on his kitchen family.
Bobby had a heart for other people. He truly lived the line from the St. Francis Prayer: “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love.†His sensitivity to the needs and hurts of others made him beloved by many. In 2007, Bob and his wife Suzanne traveled to Guatemala on a mission trip with their church. His experience there deepened his love and concern for the poor and less fortunate.
Fisherman, Guitarist, Singer-Songwriter, Chef Extraordinaire, Golfer, Beer snob, South Sider, Joker, Animal lover, Star Wars and Three Stooges Fan. Bobby Giffey was all of this and so much more. He loved life and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially treasured his time writing and playing music with his daughter Lindsey and his time watching Star Wars movies with his son Jeff.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Suzanne, his children Lindsey and Jeffrey, his mother Joan, his grandmother Joan, his brothers Roland and Andrew, and his many cousins. He also leaves behind his much-loved pets Roamy, Loco, Sammy, and Lily. He was preceded in death by his father George and his aunts and uncles Lucille, Harriet, Arthur, Roland, William, and Richard.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Yurs Funeral home in Geneva (1771 W. State Street) and the funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 4 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in St. Charles (101 S. 6th Ave.). Internment will take place at a later date.Send Flowers View / Sign Guestbook
