Anna Maleckas

Anna Maleckas February 6, 1926 - February 15, 2021

Anna Maleckas, 95, of Batavia and formerly of Oak Lawn, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at her home.  She was born February 6, 1926 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Michael and Adelina (St. Paul) Belmonti.  She was united in marriage on January 9, 1943 to Vincent Maleckas.

She is survived by her daughter Marion (Richard) Miller; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vincent; a son William (Judy) Maleckas, a daughter Patricia (Ray) Petersen; three sisters Rose, Concetta, and Mary and one brother, Andrew.

Ann worked at Rand McNally as a bookkeeper.  Once married, she dedicated her time to her family. She was selfless in her everyday life as she raised her children. When her children got older, she enjoyed working part-time at Modern Bakery in Oak Lawn.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Going on vacations with Grams was always a treat.

She was a blessing to her many nieces and nephews and their children.  It seems once someone met Ann she became part of their family and got invited to their homes.

She loved people and being active. Hosting parties at her home during the holidays was a tradition she enjoyed. She was a member of TOPS and volunteered at the Oak Lawn Senior Citizens Center and St. Gerald’s parish where she organized fund-raising craft shows.

She enjoyed playing cards and dice games.  She is well known for her overly enthusiastic personality during the family 6-5-4 games.

She was more a “city” girl than “country” but she did enjoy going fishing with her husband.  Then later in years joining her daughter, Marion, on some bird-watching adventures.

If you look up hospitality in the dictionary, Ann’s name would be there.  She accepted everyone into her life and made them feel comfortable. You never left her home hungry.

She was loved by many for her kindness and fun ways.

Visitation will be held 2:00 P.M. until 5:30 P.M. Monday, February 22, 2021 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL.  Funeral services will follow the visitation at 5:30 P.M.  A private interment will be held at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer Association www.alz.org or Valley Baptist Church 2480 Wolfs Crossing Road Oswego, IL 60543, www.valleybaptist.com
