Dietgard Marlene Schaefer

May 8, 1939 - December 3, 2025

Dietgard Schaefer (Nitz) grew up in Waltershausen, Germany.  She had one brother Klaus and 2 sisters, Evi and Lilo.  She was trained as a hat maker in Germany.  Came to the United States in 1959 to be with her brother Klaus.  She met her husband Wilfried at a German dance in Milwaukee.  They were married in 1960 and had 3 children; Edwin, Monica and Richard.  They initially lived in Chicago and then moved to Des Plaines in 1970. She was very involved with her children, helping and volunteering in school and scouts.  She helped with the grandchildren and they loved her.  She was a wonderful cook.  Loved to sew/knit and read a good book.  Also, really enjoyed listening to German music. A great mom and a good friend.  She had a gentle touch and lead by example.  She is very missed by her children, grandchildren, family and friends. A Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday December 11th, 2025 from 11:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon at Yurs Funeral Home Saint Charles (405 East Main Street).
