Donald G. Yandle
December 30, 1942 - October 12, 2026 Donald Gene Yandle (1942-2026) Don Yandle, 83, of St. Charles, Illinois passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026, at Delnor Hospital while holding the hand of his loving wife about two weeks before their 55th wedding anniversary. Don was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated from UNC. While serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, he wrote letters to a stranger named Carol. After years of corresponding, courtship, and a move to The Garden State, Don married Carol at Christ the King in Hillside, New Jersey on October 23rd, 1971. Don and Carol spent most of their married life in Naperville, Illinois where they raised their two sons, Jeff and Brian. When Don wasn’t working in Chicago, he could be found cheering on his sons at their sporting events, often as a coach. Don taught his sons that they should never do a job halfway and loved to say “close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades,” when they tried to prematurely finish something that was “close enough.” Besides his family, Don loved fishing, boating, photography, and riding his Harley. His family has many fond memories of boating at Starved Rock, and his collection of projector slides was legendary. He is survived by his sister Diane, wife Carol, children Jeff (Laura) and Brian (Heather) and his grandchildren – Andi (Connor), Breanna, Emma, Julia, Michael, Charlotte, & Grace. He was preceded in death by his dad Harrold, mom Jane, brother Jimmy, and sister Kay. Services for Don are private. In lieu of flowers, please enjoy a slab of your favorite ribs or raise up a margarita while sharing stories with your loved ones in Don’s honor.
