DORIS REYNOLDS
Date of BirthMay 11, 1929 Date of DeathMarch 21, 2023 Doris Reynolds, age 93, of Virgil, passed away quietly in her home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family. She has claimed the promise of her Savior and gained eternal life. She was born May 11, 1929, on the family farm in Virgil Twp, IL to loving parents, Nicholas and Helen Hardt. Doris grew up in the Virgil area and attended local schools. She graduated from Maple Park High School as valedictorian of the class of 1947. Doris was lucky in love twice in her life, first with Joseph J. Stockl, when they were married on September 4, 1954. They were blessed with seven children and made their home in Virgil, IL. After Joseph was taken too early, she continued to raise her children and showed the kind of fortitude, strength, conviction and love that Doris was known for throughout the community. Fate stepped in when Clark Reynolds entered her life and took on an instant family in 1981 without batting an eye. They continued to live in Virgil and even when Clark entered eternal life, Doris’ roots stayed as strong as her spirit. After high school, Doris worked as a secretary at Ideal Industries for a time before moving on to Mercy Hospital in Aurora. While her kids were young, she did the typing and bookkeeping for a business started by her friend Chuck Sauber. As the business grew, she continued to be a key part of its success, working there for over 50 years, retiring at age 85. She was proud to have been an integral part of a startup that grew into a widely recognized manufacturing company. Doris was a lifelong faithful member of S. S Peter and Paul Catholic, where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society as well as lending her voice to the choir for many years. Maple Park and Virgil Golf leagues count her among their members who strove for the elusive hole-in-one but made a memory with every swing. Family was everything to Doris, and she was happiest with her kids around her cheering on her favorite Chicago sports teams, especially her beloved Cubbies. She poured through the entire sports page of the Tribune every day and could be counted on to know all the current stories and stats. She was your sports go-to before the internet was invented. She was as fierce a competitor as she was a fan. She competed hard whether it be in ping-pong, bags, cards and puzzles, volleyball, or golf. Her competitive spirit was passed down to her kids and she faithfully followed her children and grandchildren in every competition and game. Every year the family created an egg-centered competitive game for Easter, complete with trophy and ultimate bragging rights for a year. To date, since 1997, she is the only female to take it all. Hammerschlagen, a game born in Germany where her family hailed, was also fiercely played at an annual family gathering. She often stated “A mother is always the happiest when all her children are around!†Doris enjoyed travel and took countless road trips with Clark. They enjoyed their trips to Branson and Nashville, where they shared their love of country music. They also fondly recalled their trip to view the autumn colors in the northeast, and an especially wonderful wedding anniversary trip to Europe where they visited the Vatican. She had many memorable times on the yearly Sauber Manufacturing trips to sunny destinations. But the vacations she enjoyed most were family lake vacations in Rhinelander, Wisconsin when her kids were young, and annual family gatherings in Lake Delton when her kids were older. She will be remembered for her humility, her laugh and self-deprecating humor, but mostlyforher integrity which was never second guessed and always respected. She loved her family unconditionally and welcomed new additions with open arms and an open heart. She now leaves seven children: Deb (Roger) Reynolds, Tim Stockl, Dan (Claire Stockl), Roger (Kim) Stockl., Greg (Kim) Stockl, Russ (Ann) Stockl, Doug Stockl; 13 grandchildren: Joe(Casey) Reynolds, Kristi (Ryan) Kunkel, Bruce (Caitlyn) Stockl, Elise (Josh) Houswerth, Darren (Liz) Stockl, Seth Stockl, Courtney Stockl, Michael Stockl, Jenna Stockl, Nick Stockl, Jake Stockl, Ryan Stockl, and Josh Stockl; 11 great-grandchildren: Jack and Harper Kunkel, Ellie, Finn, Sophie, Kinsley, and Myla Reynolds, Belle and Matthew Stockl, Daniel and Grace Houswerth; many nieces, nephews, and friends on every corner.
