Dorothy M. (Driehaus)  Mellin March 30, 1944 ~ July 27, 2026 (age 82) 82 Years Old
Dorothy M. Mellin Obituary Dorothy M. Mellin, 82, of Wayne IL, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2026.  She was born on March 30, 1944, to Herman and Margaret (Rea) Driehaus.  Dorothy held a BA degree in education. She taught fourth, fifth and sixth grade at St. John Baptist de Lasalle School in Chicago.  After the birth of her five children, Dorothy devoted her life to family and the many foundations and charitable organizations that she supported.   She also dedicated her time to the arts and, because of her innate creativity, was a gifted painter in her own right. Her board memberships included: The Richard H Driehaus Foundation -Vice President The Stenning- Secretary. Sister Mary, Richard Rea Foundation- President. Saint Margaret of Scotland School Saint Francis of Assisi School Sisters of Notre Dame Her artistic affiliations included: Oil Painters Of America  Transparent Watercolors Association  Wayne Art League. Dorothy is survived by her husband Art, children Marie (Joe) Rossi, Dan (Michelle) of Belmont, Michigan, Jamie (Marzena) of Chicago, Sean (Cathi) of St. Charles, and Chris (Kari) of St. Charles, and grandchildren Rebecca (Jacob) Kanclerz, JJ, Mariah, Ben, Regina, Tony, Lucia, Gloria, Angela, Isabelle Rossi, Danielle (Luke) Holland, Anelene, Michael, Johnny Mellin, Claire, Emilia Mellin, Bethany, and Arthur Mellin; great-grandchildren Lucy Mellin, Matthias, Micah Kanclerz. Her sister, Elizabeth (Demitrios Athens) Driehaus.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard H. Driehaus.  Dorothy’s legacy of love for family, her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, will live forever in the hearts and memories of those she loved and that loved her.  She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St., Geneva, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Old St. Patrick Catholic Church, 700 West Adams Street, Chicago, IL 60661, on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago.
