Lee Sr., age 79, of Milton, WI, formerly of Elburn, IL, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Sunday, October 30, 2022. Doug was born in Lombard, IL to loving parents, Charles H. and Marguerite (Hoffman) Lee on December 27, 1942. Doug, his brothers, and his sisters all grew up on a farm in Lombard, IL where they shared countless, fun adventures and caused a lot of mischief. Doug attended local schools and went on to graduate with the class of 1961 from Downers Grove Community High School. One night, while at the Quiet Village in Westmont, Doug met the young woman who would soon become his wife, Constance Trafidlo. Doug and Connie were united in marriage on May 24, 1969. From an early age, Doug had a love for cars which led him to become a “body manâ€. He started working on cars when he was 18 and it never grew old for him. He did his work for a Chevy dealer for about 25 years before he decided to open his own auto body repair shop. In 1986, Elburn Auto Body was born, and he ran the shop for 22 years. Fixing cars, helping people, a man who always greeted you with a happy face were characteristics Doug was best known for . The Elburn Lions Club, Koshkonog Mounds Golf Course in Fort Atkinson, WI, and the Auto Mechanics Union were fortunate to have Doug as one of their members for many years. Doug and Connie traveled extensively and went on many cruises, his favorite being the one they took to Alaska. When they returned from their travels, Doug would need to mow his lawn. No matter how long they were gone, only Doug could mow the lawn to his very particular specifications. When winter came Doug and Connie went on many trips up to Wisconsin with Bob and Sue Biddle, along with an array of other friends, to go snowmobiling. When spring and summer came back Doug had a fond affection for golfing; Lee Gilkey was his most frequent partner. Doug had a talent with his driver and on two different occasions scored a hole in one, once at Hughes Creek, Elburn and again at Bliss Creek, Sugar Grove. When he wasn’t filling his life with fun or working in the shop he found enjoyment in collecting John Deere toy tractors. Many establishments in Elburn were enjoyed having Doug as one of their loyal customers for so many years. He is survived by his wife: Constance “Connie†Lee; his four children: Darcie Lee, Shawn Lee, Stacey (Mike) McClanahan, and Shelley (Andy) Barshinger; his five grandchildren: Kyle (Kimberlee) McClanahan, Nicholas McClanahan, Adam (Emma Zukauski) McClanahan, Kennedy Barshinger, Landrey Barshinger; his three great-grandchildren: Zeke, Josh, and Brooklyn McClanahan; his brother, Bernie (Janice) Lee and his sister, Peggy Lee; a long line of nieces and nephews, and a community of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Marguerite Lee; his parents-in-law: Frank and Jeanne Trafidlo; one son Doug Lee Jr., and seven siblings. Doug’s family will hold a Celebration of Life at Lion’s Park 500 Filmore St., in Elburn, IL on December 3, 2022 from 1-4 P.M. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Doug’s name. Checks may be made to the “Doug Lee Memorial†and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, 60119. Tributes may be forwarded to the same address, the Conley Funeral Home Facebook Page, or at www.conleycare.com. |
