J E. Fazel passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025 with family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Ann Sloman Fazel for 68 wonderful years. He is survived by his son, Michael D. Fazel (Maureen), and daughter, Victoria F. Kielhack. Cherished Grandfather to Christine V. Spellicy (Matt), Tabitha Runge (Brandon) and Abigail Puttkammer (Todd). Proud great-grandfather to Lucille, Anna Beth, Wesley, and ReinHardt. J is also survived by his brother John Fazel (Mary Lou), sister June Pounder, as well as a niece and nephews. J Retired after 48 years of dedicated service as a signal maintenance maintainer for various railroads. He viewed life through many windows, always guided by a deep commitment to service. J made a lasting and positive impact on everyone in his community– both young people and adults alike. He spent over 80 years in scouting, mentoring and supporting generations of youth. He was a Mason for 55 years, a member of the shriners for 50 years, Pads in Elgin for 25 years, and Senior Services in Elgin for 20 years. His volunteer work extended far beyond these organizations, including time at food banks, soup kitchens, and in faithful service to his church. J was honored with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, Big Horn Award, Served on National & World Jamborees. His service was also recognized with awards from the City of Elgin, and he was named AARP Volunteer of the Year for the state of Illinois. J E. Fazel’s legacy of compassion, dedication, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
