JANICE E. FABER
Date of BirthJuly 6, 1949 Date of DeathJuly 12, 2024 Janice “Jan” Faber, 75 of Elburn, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2024. Jan was born on July 6, 1949 in Elgin, IL to parents, Dwight and Jeanette Faber (nee Volkening). She was raised in the Burlington area on her family dairy farm. She attended local schools, graduating from Burlington Central High School, Class of 1967. Jan loved growing up on the family farm and was the only one who was allowed to drive her father’s tractor. Her focus and steady hands earned her the coveted role of tractor driver. Farm life was befitting to Jan. When it was time for her to move away, she was grateful to always be able to return home to the farm when visiting her parents. After graduating from high school, she attended Ellis Business College in Elgin, IL where she trained to become a secretary. She worked for many years as a legal secretary prior to earning her paralegal. Before and after earning her paralegal, she worked for many different law firms, starting around Elgin, IL and Schaumburg, IL. She eventually traveled to Connecticut to work for a law firm, before returning to Illinois where she completed her career working for a large law firm in downtown Chicago. Jan was well respected as president of the Kane County Legal Secretary Association, and she took great pride in her time spent heading the organization. Growing up, Jan was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington, IL. She was also a long-time member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Elgin for over 20 years, where she sang in the choir and with the Praise Singers and was the church treasurer for over 10 years and also served on the church council. Jan was also on the board that helped preserve the Pioneer Sholes School by volunteering her time to keep the doors open of The Sholes School Museum located in LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve. She felt that preserving history and historical places like the school were important, especially because her mother, Jeanette, had received her education in the one room school. Jan was an avid sports fan and loved to follow all the Chicago sports teams, from the Chicago Bulls to the Cubs. She rooted for all the city’s teams. At her core, Jan loved God and being a paralegal. She had a work ethic that didn’t quit. She was never afraid of a hard day’s work and was dedicated to the many law firms she worked for over the years. She had an infectious smile and a tender heart; she radiated love and joy to anyone in her presence. Jan’s sister Donna’s dog, Crackers, brought joy to Jan’s heart and she utterly adored him. She always looked forward to seeing him and spoiling him. Jan was a strong-willed, intelligent, independent, woman. Her family will surely be missing her great smile and kind heart. Jan leaves behind her sisters: Linda (Bud) Cambier and Donna Faber (Ian Coxworth); her nephews: Travis (Nicole) Schultz and Tim “TJ” (Becky) Schultz; her great nieces and nephews: Madalyn, Tyler, Macey, Cole, and Lucas. Jan is reunited with her parents, Dwight and Jeanette Faber. Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Sholes School Museum in Jan’s memory via the following link https://www.ppfv.org/sholes-school.
