Joyce Eleanor Moore: daughter of Arthur and Eleanor Munting, died peacefully in the care of Bickford Place in St Charles, IL at age 96. Joyce was preceded in death by husbands’ Thomas Moore Jr., and Edward Gilbert, brother Robert Munting (wife – June also deceased), Canadian cousin and dear friend Mary Price (husband Richard also deceased), daughter Gail Moore (son-in-law Wendell also deceased) and grandson Austin Heath. Survivors who lovingly remember her include son Mark Moore (wife Sandra), daughter Cynthia Duckworth (husband David), grandchildren Thomas Stevens, Krys Clinkscales (husband Kevin), Heather Hodge (husband Brandon), Scott Froelich (wife Sheree), four step-grandchildren and their families, three great-grandchildren, two nephews, and innumerable Canadian cousins. Raised in Leominster, Massachusetts, Joyce learned to play piano at a young age and as a lifelong Episcopalian she added the organ to her skill set and sang in the church choir. Later, she played piano and led a small choir at her independent senior living facility, Carriage Oaks in St. Charles and at Bickford Place assisted living. Her first teen summer job was working as a waitress at a Hampton Beach restaurant run by a top graduate of the Fannie Farmer School of Cooking. While she didn’t cook during her employment, she watched and learned. As a result, her family enjoyed delicious, well-prepared meals in their Wheaton, IL home. If she’d had the opportunity, Joyce would have excelled in college. Acting as the family accountant, she managed a tight budget and did her own taxes until age 70. She volunteered in the emergency room at Central Dupage Hospital to better understand current health practices. She knitted sweaters, scarves and mittens for the family and was an immaculate seamstress, making clothes for herself and her daughters. Later she embroidered and quilted with the same attention to detail. Bringing people together over good food, games (especially bridge), and tennis were favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed gardening. After a stint as a waitress and then as an office worker at a container plant, Joyce took a job as office manager for Franz Lipp/Marvin Whaler (landscape architects), to help pay for her children’s college education.  She loved the outdoors, especially the wide-open prairie. She organized and co-led two girl scout troops, one for each daughter, including frequent camping adventures. During the summers, family camping across the U.S. was hard work and hard play. After her youngest graduated high school, she and Tom, the father of her children, retired and moved from Wheaton, IL to Belle Vista, AR., where she became an avid golfer, playing her last round at age 90. The empty nest allowed her to satisfy her wanderlust by traveling the world with both Tom, and later Eddy. Joyce generously offered her talents to any who asked. She was a clever conversationalist, quick to laugh, and endlessly curious. A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Charles Episcopal church located at 994 N 5 th Ave, (Route 25), St Charles, IL at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, Joyce requested donations be made either to St Charles Episcopal Church or Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX  79174Guest BookShareEmailPrint
