Judith ‘Judy’ Kocher
April 16, 1946 - September 26, 2025 Judy Kocher, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, surrounded by the family and friends she so deeply cherished. Her unwavering love, playful spirit, and generous nature will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Born on April 16, 1946, Judy built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family. She married her husband, Dan on December 1, 1973, and they were married for 51 years, 9 months, and 26 days. Dan was always counting the beautiful days they shared. Together, they built a home where love was abundant, laughter was constant, and everyone felt like family. Judy was the devoted mother of five children: the late Wendy Woodbridge (David), Michael Kocher (Mark Pletcher), Jen Canta (Manny Canta), Joe(y) Kocher, and Susie Dulay (Joe). She was also a proud and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: Matt Woodbridge and Kelsey Woodbridge (fiancé Andrew Richter); Isabelle and Evy Canta; and Henry, Eleanor, and Jacob Dulay. Her face lit up every time she spoke of them, and she made each one feel like the most special person in the world. She was the heart of her family. She held everyone together with love, humor, and just the right amount of sass. Judy had a remarkable way of making you feel truly seen and cared for. She joked about having “tough love,” but no one ever doubted the love. Above all else, she taught her children and grandchildren empathy, compassion, and resilience. Most importantly, she adored her family and took immense joy in watching them grow, thrive, and discover what they loved. Her love and generosity extended beyond her family and friends to the community, volunteering her time and talent for those in need. Her joy came from bringing people together. Judy’s favorite place was in her home, surrounded by her family, especially on Christmas Eve, a holiday she made magical for everyone. Her legacy is stitched into every quilt, echoed in every laugh shared at the kitchen table, and baked into every cookie. Judy is survived by her siblings: Dan Michalewicz, Donna John, and Jim Michalewicz. Judy was preceded in death by her parents: Walter Rohde and Clara Michalewicz. At Judy’s request, a private service will be held. We thank you for your support during this difficult time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and details will be shared with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s memory may be made to Northern Illinois Food Bank.
