Karen Marie Pedersen

Karen Marie Pedersen (Mikrut) passed away peacefully at home on 9/30/2020 in Aurora, Illinois due to complications from cancer at the age of 55.

Karen was born on 11/02/1964 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Rosemarie Mikrut, and shortly after moved to Westchester, Illinois, where she lived her childhood and young adult life. From an early age, Karen had a passion for art, design, and all things colorful. She followed these passions, spending her entire career working as a Graphic Designer; 22 years for Ace Hardware and 15 years with her husband, David, as part of Pedersen Design, LLC in Batavia, Illinois.

Karen and David were united in marriage on March 8, 1991 in Westchester. Shortly after, their sons, Andrew and Samuel, were welcomed into the world in 1993 and 1994. Moving to Aurora in 1996, Karen soon became involved in the Batavia community through school, church, business, and the journey into music for her children. Karen’s presence was loved and valued through her involvement as a member with the Batavia Women In Business.

Through her entire life, Karen was one of the most selfless people you could meet. She would put her own needs second, as it made her happy knowing you were taken care, comforted, and supported any way she could. One of the things Karen enjoyed most was to host parties and family gatherings. She would prepare the most wonderful spreads, and kept serving even if you were beyond full. It was just one of her many ways of showing love.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but her influence and legacy will live on.

Karen is survived by her loving husband, David and two children, Andrew and Samuel, her parents James C. and Rosemarie, siblings Thomas (Dianne) and James R. (Mara), uncle Edward (Sharon) Goettert, and many nieces and nephews, Kassia, Jeremy, Taylor, Kaitlin, Timothy, Zachary, and  Madison. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Peter and Marie Goettert, Chester and Anne Mikrut, and her uncle Robert Mikrut.
