Kathleen J. Stover
Obituary
Kathleen J. Stover, age 79, passed away peacefully January 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of
devotion, talent, and quiet grace.
Kathy was the Salutatorian of the 1964 class of Central High School and earned both her
undergraduate and Master’s of Education degrees from Northern Illinois University.
A lifelong learner and educator, Kathy dedicated her professional life to service and excellence. She
worked as a teacher at Oregon High School for five years before visiting Paris, France. For 13
memorable years, Kathy lived in Paris, France—an experience that enriched her life and reflected her
love of culture, learning, and the arts. When she returned from Europe she continued teaching but in
the business world as a trainer. Central High School was also lucky enough to have her as a teacher.
She found her calling as an administrative assistant to three different Presidents of Elgin Community
College, where she was respected for her professionalism, reliability, and unwavering commitment to
supporting others.
Her life was full of deep and enduring relationships, especially with her family. She was a loving sister
to her three brothers, Ralph, Lloyd, and Wayne, and her sister-in-laws Maureen and Gail and a
cherished aunt to her nine nieces and nephews and fifteen great-nieces and great-nephews, all of
whom she loved dearly and supported with pride and affection.
Music was one of Kathy’s greatest gifts. A master pianist and a wonderful vocalist, she shared her
talent generously with others. She faithfully played the piano at her church for over 35 years, offering
her music as a form of worship and service. She was an active member of the Chicago Acapella as
well as the Red Hat Society. She brought joy and smiles to many residents in area nursing homes
and retirement centers with her music. Her melodies uplifted countless hearts and will be
remembered long after the final note has faded.
Kathy will be remembered for her intelligence, creativity, faith, and the quiet strength with which she
lived her life. She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and will forever carry her memory in
their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Margaret Stover, her infant brother and her
