Kenneth A. Issel Obituary Kenneth A. Issel, age 89, of Geneva, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Greenfields of Geneva with his loving family by his side.
He was born August 8, 1935, in Chicago, the eldest son of Louis and Hilda (Stubenvoll) Issel.
Ken graduated from Proviso High School and attended Iowa State University where he met the love of his life, Sue. After transferring to and graduating from the University of Illinois, Ken and Sue married in 1958. Ken then was stationed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for two years. When he completed his service, he had a long and fruitful career with Illinois Bell Telephone Company until his retirement in 1991. After he retired, Ken and Sue spent many years in Door County, Wisconsin where Ken enjoyed his work at Peninsula State Park Golf Course.
Throughout Ken’s life, he volunteered in many different capacities which he thoroughly enjoyed, while meeting others and making friendships along the way. Ken was also very involved with the many churches he attended throughout the years. He enjoyed the various roles he held including Council Member, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member, just to name a few.
Ken and Sue spent the last 13 years living in Geneva, Illinois. Ken was an avid sports fan and participant, with tennis being his favorite activity. He spent many years cheering for the Chicago Cubs and attended many games ever since he was a young boy. Ken was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye for anyone he met. Ken will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Sue (Leonard); children Katherine (John) Heden of Chicago, Karen (Craig) Desens of Geneva, and Laura (David) Dillon of Glenview; grandchildren Nathan (Allie), Julian, and Katie Desens, D.J. Dillon, Megan (David) Blanco, and Madeline Dillon; brother William (Helen) of North Carolina; step-grandchildren John (Alicia), David, and Kelly (Maggie) Heden; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 1:00 pm until the time of his memorial service at 2:30 pm at Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. 3rd Street, Geneva with Pastor Trudy Stoffel officiating.
Burial will be held privately.
