Marieanne Ellen Hoffmann
May 4, 1930 - October 2, 2020
Marieanne Ellen Hoffman entered into the sunshine of heaven on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Michealsen Health Care Center in Batavia Illinois. Marieanne was born on May 4, 1930, the daughter of Frederick and Ellen Linnea (nee Hultin) Nelson in Chicago Illinois. On November 1, 1952, she married her beloved husband, Roy Michael Hoffman. They lived an incredible life of love and devotion to each other for 58 years, making homes in Oak Lawn, Chicago Heights, Flossmoor, and Batavia IL, Livingston, New Jersey, and Sawyer, Michigan, with several winters in Naples, Florida. Growing up in Chicago, she attended Oglesby Elementary, Calumet High School, North Park Academy, and was a lifelong and active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Marieanne faithfully served the Lord she loved with a quiet but rock-solid faith seen in her selfless giving to family and friends, always making us feel welcome and loved in her home. She always had an encouraging word, with her wry wit tucked inside kindness and joy. Marieanne was gifted with an eye for beauty which showed in her many exquisite quilts and the clothing she made for her family. Known lovingly as ‘Mare’ to Roy, she humbly enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. She made a mean chicken tetrazzini; according to Roy, world’s best rhubarb and blueberry pies, and her grandkids treasured the silver dollar sized Swedish pancakes she made just for them. ‘Her children rise up and call her blessed,’ Proverbs 31:28. This was our precious Mom, the Grandma one dreams of with a heart the size of the sun, this little but mighty servant who graced the world for 90 years. Marieanne is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, her granddaughter Brita Marie, and her great granddaughter, Jordynn Noelle. She is survived by her children, Janice (Alan) of Burlington WI, Joyce Nelson of Niles MI, Jon (Judith) of St. Charles Il, and Judith (Randy) of Fargo ND, grandchildren: Katie (Raul), Eric (Kristina), Kristina (Jeff), Annalise, Caleb (Ariel), Victoria, Troy and Cale, and great grandchildren: Bryce, Kaylee, Cole, Ashton, Tristan, Lars and Adaline. She also leaves behind her brother Richard (Jane) Nelson of Pentwater MI, niece Kirstin (Jeff) McDonough and family as well as many cousins in Sweden: Per Hultin, Margareta (Erik) Mueller, Anna-Margit Samuelsson and their families. |
