Marimae Joan Kane
May 4, 1938 - March 10, 2024 Marimae Kane, 85, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 10, 2024, at JourneyCare Hospice, Barrington, Illinois. Marimae was born May 4, 1938, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, to Lester and Eileen Thomas. She grew up on the South Side of Chicago, attended Little Flower Grammar School, and was a member of the Mercy High School Class of 1955. She then went to Lewis College, where she met the love of her life, James Kane, whom she married on July 6, 1957, at Little Flower Catholic Church. A lively, beautiful, and intelligent woman, Marimae deeply loved her family and friends, and found her greatest joy during the 48 years she and James lived in St. Charles, Illinois. She had boundless energy, whether maintaining her lovely home, entertaining, socializing, traveling, doting on her grandchildren, or urging others to join in the fun. She summed up her philosophy of life as, “I was always afraid I might miss something!” Her career included working as a classroom aide at Mades-Johnstone School, as a receptionist for pediatrician Dr. Walter Miller, as an administrative assistant at Catholic Charities, and her dream job as membership director for the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. After retirement, she volunteered at Hesed House shelter for the homeless in Aurora. Marimae is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, James; her children, Susan (Eric) Parker, Kevin (Molly) Kane, Christopher (Eileen) Kane, and Jonathan (Mary) Kane; grandchildren Maggie Kane, Andrew Kane, Ted Kane, Erin Kane, Niamh Kane, Declan Kane, Eamon Kane, Nate Kane and Owen Kane; and her brother, John Thomas.
