Michael Novak Obituary Michael Novak, age 99, of Geneva, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 28, 1924, in Chicago, the son of Michael and Anna (Chovanec) Novak. Michael completed his grammar school and high school years in Chicago, IL.  He enjoyed baseball and golf throughout his youth, and later served in the U.S. Army 79th infantry WWII as a scout. Golf became a favorite hobby of Mike’s, and Hughes Creek Golf Course in Elburn, IL had become his staple course over the last 20 years.  In 2014, at the age of 90, he shot a hole in one at Hughes and it was his most memorable game to date! Michael was married to his beloved wife, Alice (Sobotka) Novak, for 72 years. When the couple were asked what the secret to long lasting love is, Mike replied “She lets me golf and I let her shop.”  Balance and compromise are the wise lessons for the ages he left us with. Mike was salt of the earth, and his family will always have his examples to live by, his voice and laughter to remember, and he will live on through his loved ones. Michael is survived by his wife; children Michele (Robert) Kochlefl of Michigan, Mitchell (Virginia) Novak of St. Charles, and Kim Novak-Hagman of Geneva; grandchildren Scott Kochlefl, Tyler Barnet, Jamie (Matt) Riley, and Jilllian (Alex) Novak-Serrato; and great-grandchildren Reid and Jake Riley and Vance Serrato. Michael was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services for Michael will be held privately.
