July 15, 1935 - May 24, 2022

Robert Gerald Miller (Bob), of St. Charles, IL, passed away on May 24, 2022. The family is deeply saddened by his death, but thankful for the memories and imprints that he left on their lives. He is survived by his wife, Carol, his sons Jeffrey, Bob and wife Tracy, Scott and wife Rita, along with 4 grandchildren: Ryan, Connor, Aleesha and Matthew; along with his extended family and an abundance of friends. He was born on July 15, 1935 in Berwyn, IL and attended Morton High School and Northwestern University.  He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and made his major league debut at the age of 17.  He pitched for the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets across his career from 1953 – 1962.  Later, he served as Chairman and CEO of the Major League Baseball alumni association where his focus was on increasing membership levels and benefits for older alumni who were in need, but did not have pensions. After retiring from baseball, Bob emerged an accomplished businessman and set about sharing the fruits of his labor as a philanthropist.  Over several decades, Bob and Carol gave substantially of their time, talents and treasure to a multitude of charitable organizations across Chicago and the local community.  Many lives were touched and changed for the better as a result of their generosity. He was a member of the Rotary Club and was actively engaged in ministries at St. John Neumann Catholic church. Anyone who knew Bob was touched by his kindness, humor and gregarious nature. He was a faithful servant of God, a devout and loving husband, and a dedicated friend to many.  We will all miss him more than words can say. There will be a viewing at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles Friday, May 27, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be  held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 10:30 am.  For further information please call Yurs Funeral Home St. Charles., 630-584-0060 Guest Book ShareEmail Print
