Rosalie Van Roekel
July 26, 1930 - February 5, 2024 Rosalie Van Roekel, 93, of Aledo, IL, passed peacefully on February 5, 2024. The daughter of Major Royce and Dorothy Pettit of Reynolds, Illinois, she was born July 26, 1930. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1948. In 1951, she achieved her nursing degree from Bradley University Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois. In 1952, she married Dr. Otto K. Van Roekel, D.V.M. They raised their two children, Kermit and Vivian, in Aledo, Illinois. She practiced nursing at Mercer County Hospital, then eventually took over the management of Doc’s veterinary clinic in Aledo until their retirement in 1992. She and Doc enjoyed spending time and vacationing with their three grandchildren. She loved outdoor gardening, reading, and genealogy. In 2011, Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband Otto and in 2023 by her brother Royce. Survivors include siblings Janet Anderson,Anaheim, CA; and James Pettit, Edgington, IL; son Kermit Van Roekel( Ruth), Santa Rosa Beach, FL; daughter Vivian Van Roekel( Bernard Lanan), St. Charles, IL; grandchildren Royce Van Roekel(Sheena),Richmond, WI; Seth Van Roekel, Ankeny, IA; Meredith Lanan, Chicago, IL; and several great grandchildren. A private family memorial service is planned for August 17, 2024 at 10 A.M. at the Reynolds, Illinois cemetery.
