Rosemond Fik
December 4, 1924 - October 26, 2022 Rosemond Fik, 97, of Geneva, IL, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 26, 2022. She was born December 4, 1924, in South Chicago Heights, IL, the daughter of Walter and Malinda (Steiber) Wolff. Rose married the love of her life, Mitchell "Mike" J. Fik, on September 11, 1943. Together they raised three children and loved spending time with their four grandchildren. Rose loved being a wife and mother, which was the most rewarding job she had ever had. Rose graduated from Bloom High School in Chicago Heights with a Secretarial Diploma in 1943. She then went on to work as a secretary for the Illinois Central Railroad, in the Freight-Traffic Department, in Chicago. While working for the IC, Rose was chosen to be a contestant in the beauty contest as part of the “Chicago Railroad Fair” in commemoration of a century of railroad service. During the “Wheels-a-Rolling” pageant, an IC streamliner train pulled across the center of the stage carrying the contestants and their escorts. Rose was one of 10 selected from among 40 beauty contest entrants competing for the title of “Miss Illinois Central”. For 2 years Rose serviced as president of the Amvets Auxiliary Post 84, in Crete, IL. During that same time, Rose and Mike participated in the TV show: “Dancing for Dollars” in Chicago with Eddie Hubbard as host. TV Radio Mirror Magazine printed a picture of them holding the winning trophy; however, they hadn’t won one dance. In 1961 Rose became a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, a mission church. As a member she was appointed to serve as Christian Growth Chairman, serving four circuits in the Northern Illinois District. In addition, she was a representative for Faith Lutheran Church with “Church Women United of Geneva” for several years. She grew in the Lord through the teachings of Pastor Del Rosin and was also influenced by Father Bill McMahon. In 1984, Rose and Mike walked in the Holy Land where Jesus had walked. It brought the Bible alive for both of them. Rosemond Fik is survived by her children, Linda (Paul) Van Der Molen of Aurora, IL, Michael (Judy) Fik of Toivola, MI, David (Candy) Fik of Parker, CO; four grandchildren, Katie Delaney, Brandy Fik, Michael Fik and Gabriel Fik. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, on May 2, 2004, and her brother, Raymond Wolff. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
