June 11, 1963 - April 8, 2026

Salvatore “Sal” Occhipinti, age 62, of DeKalb, IL passed away April 8th, 2026. He was born on June 11, 1963, to Carlo and Josephine Occhipinti. He was the youngest of six siblings. He graduated from Lake Park High School in 1981 and was active in wrestling and marching band. Sal was a loving and caring father to his two sons. He was a lifelong Cubs and Bears fans and you could always find him watching the games with friends and family on Sundays. He passed his love of baseball down to his kids and loved coaching. He prided himself on being Kaneland High School’s unofficial cross-country statistician and was most proud of watching his sons running. Sal was known for his one-of-a-kind sense of humor and storytelling. He always wanted to make sure those around him were cared for and happy. When it was Sal’s turn to host a holiday, every guest went home with enough leftovers for the whole family. He will be remembered for his generosity to all that knew him. His recent work has taken him all over Wisconsin and Illinois, where he got to share his love for running his beef jerky company, College Dawgs, at state fairs and other events. He is survived by his children, Drew (Riley) of Chicago, IL and Daniel of Bozeman, MT, siblings, Vince (Debbie), Jackie Petersen (Randy), Peter (Carol), Joe (Laura), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlo and Josephine, his stepmother, Lil, who he cared deeply for, and his brother, Carl. The visitation will be on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Yurs Funeral Home (405 East Main Street, Saint Charles, IL) from 1:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Congregational United Church of Christ (40W451 Fox Mill Blvd, St. Charles, IL) at 4:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association. For further information call Yurs Funeral Home St. Charles, 630-584-0060.Guest BookShareEmailPrint
