Sarah Harris March 2, 1934 ~ January 6, 2025 (age 90) 90 Years Old
Sarah Harris Obituary Sarah “Sadie” Harris, age 90, of Aurora, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025 at Michaelsen Health Center in Batavia, IL. She was born March 2, 1934 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to William E. and Edith E. (Rodgers) Harris. Growing up, Sadie and her older sister, Evelyn, had many good times with their parents.  Her father was an opera singer and that took them to many places in Ireland.  Her brother, Eric, came along when she was 15. It gave her a real live baby to take care of along with her mother.  The family left Ireland for Canada when she was 16 and then moved to Detroit, Michigan at the age of 19.  Sadie worked for Sears Roebuck for a few years and then as a bookkeeper for Allied Supermarkets Credit Union for 27 years.  In 1981, Sadie retired from the credit union and moved to Richmond, Indiana to take care of her father after her mother passed away in 1980.  After two years of helping him with his upholstry business, her father remarried and she moved back to Michigan to help her brother-in-law, John, take care of her sister who had suffered a stroke in 1981.  She stayed with Evelyn and John until John passed away in 1995 and then was Evelyn’s full-time caregiver until she passed away in 2002. Sadie never married, but was very close to her brother and nephews, visiting them many times in Illinois, Maine and Florida.  In 2016, she moved in with her friend, Nora Atwood and lived with her until 2020 when Nora passed away.  Sadie then came to live with her brother and sister-in-law, Barbara, in Illinois and lived with them until 2022 when she moved to Michaelsen Medical Center because she needed additional medical care. Sadie’s life was always centered around helping others, as demonstrated by 21 years of full-time care giving to her father, her sister and many friends -- always willing to sacrifice for others but never wanting any help for herself.  She was an avid knitter from the age of 8 up until her death, making many sweaters, scarfs, blankets, hats and slippers either to donate or as gifts. She is survived by her brother Eric (Barb) Harris of Aurora; nephews Michael Weishap of Asheboro, North Carolina, Mark (Theresa) Weishap of Asheboro, North Carolina and Patrick Weishap of Sarasota, Florida,  Christopher (Carolee) Harris of Willowbrook, Illinois and Timothy (Cassie) Harris of Puyallup, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Evelyn Byrne. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, Feburary 8, 2025 at 11:00 am at Michigan Memorial Park, 32163 Huron River Drive, Flat Rock, Michigan 48134. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michaelsen Employee Appreciation Fund, c/o Michaelson Medical Center, 831 Batavia Ave, Batavia, IL 60510. Arrangements handled by Malone Funeral Home in Geneva.  For information 630-232-8233 or visit malonefh.com.
