Shirley J. Worthel
April 5, 1957 - October 9, 2026 Our family is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved sister Shirley. Shirley Flores-Worthel was born on April 5, 1957, in Geneva Il. She joins her loving parents, Dorothy Lundeen and Joaquin F Flores, her younger brother Joaquin F Flores Jr and her devoted stepfather Elwood (Woody) Lundeen. She is survived by her sisters Jackie Morris, Kathy Flores, her nephew Tyler Johnson and great nephew Jett Johnson. Shirley spent most of her career as a “storm trooper” claims adjuster for Travelers insurance, traveling and chasing the famous hurricanes Hugo, Bob and Andrew. She enjoyed her time with Travelers but decided she wanted to chase her real passion in the culinary arts and spent many years in Orlando Florida working for Disney as a chef. She moved back to Illinois in 2016 to be closer to family and help care for Woody. Shirley was an inspiration to all she met and created a life of generosity, kindness, humor. She cared deeply for her family, friends and the children she surrounded herself with as a special needs bus monitor for Geneva school district. She lived her life with great Faith and Love and was called to God unexpectedly, she leaves behind memories and stories of her silliness when creating a prank, slipping her favorite great nephew a few bucks and always generating a smile from those that knew her. Shirley loved the arts, anything outdoors, live music, and sports. You could always catch her watching her favorite teams, the Cubs, Blackhawks and of course Da Bears. Her favorite sport to watch was her great nephew when he played hockey. She made as many games as she could and was one of his biggest fans. There will be no immediate services at this time. Family will be planning a celebration of life in the near future and will reach out to all that knew this amazing woman with the details. “Like a hawk described in the Book of Job, Shirley has spread her wings to catch the wind and journey home. We take comfort in knowing that she is soaring peacefully in the presence of the Creator, free and full of grace.”Guest BookShareEmailPrint |
