June 12, 1937 - November 11, 2020

Susan was born on June 12th, 1937 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She passed away on November 11th, 2020 at Greenfields of Geneva senior center at age 83 after a long illness. Susan moved to Elgin, IL as a child and graduated from St. Edward Central Catholic High School. After high school, she went with lifelong best friend, Florence Ostdick, to Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where they studied to become teachers. After college, she married Brian James Maloney in 1960, and they built their home together in western St. Charles, IL. They lived in their home for 50 years before deciding to move to Greenfields. Susan taught elementary school at St. Patrick Grade School in St. Charles for 30 years, taking time off to raise her 5 children: Michael, Molly, Patrick, Matthew, and Mark. All her children attended both St. Patrick Grade School and St. Edward High School, before going to college. Education was a passion for Susan, and she preferred the offerings of Catholic schools, despite the added expense. A point of pride for Susan was that all her children graduated from college. Susan was devoted to her family and to her Catholic faith. She loved spending time with her children and extended family, especially during the holidays. Susan loved attending mass every Sunday and holy day, and she loved practicing her faith. After retiring, she taught Catholic Sunday school for 7 years. Susan enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting Ireland, Germany, and Scotland among other countries. Susan enjoyed a morning bike ride along the Fox river. She and Brian would meet his sister Mary Olah and her husband Albert. Afterwards, they would go out for breakfast. She was also a lifelong lover of reading. Her favorite author was Helen Steiner Rice. She also loved the “Jesus Calling” book series by Sarah Young. Susan enjoyed movies; her favorites were “Gone with the Wind”, “Quiet Man” and “Forest Gump”. Tom Hanks was her favorite actor, with John Wayne coming in second. Susan enjoyed Chicago sports, especially the Chicago Cubs and Bulls and college basketball. She would often organize a NCAA Basketball pool during March Madness. Susan had a great impact on her students, their families, and the community over the years. Susan is dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children and eight grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years. Upon her death, Susan continued her dedication to education by donating her body for scientific study.   Guest Book ShareEmail Print
