Susan Selman Obituary Susan Selman, of Batavia, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 30, 1970, in Angola, Indiana, Susan was the beloved daughter of Bill and Betty Selman. She graduated from Angola High School before earning her degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. Throughout her career, she was known for her dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic, most recently serving as Operations Manager for Schmidt Exteriors. Nothing brought Susan greater joy than being the mother of her daughter, Savannah. She celebrated every milestone in Savannah's life and was incredibly proud to see her fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. As Susan battled cancer, her greatest hope was to live long enough to see Savannah graduate from college. Through extraordinary determination, she realized that dream. Susan's greatest wish was that Savannah live a happy, meaningful, and fulfilling life, and the bond they shared was evident to everyone who knew them. Susan had a gift for making people feel at home. Whether it was family, lifelong friends, or the neighborhood kids, everyone was welcome in her home. She had a generous spirit, a warm heart, and she never hesitated to help someone in need. Susan had a keen wit and wonderful sense of humor. Finding ways to laugh about life’s big and small challenges was a gift to all. She also had a special love for her dogs, who were treasured companions. Susan is survived by her daughter, Savannah Washington; her mother, Betty Selman; her brothers, Bill Selman and his wife, Renee, and Tom Selman and his wife, Pam; her nephews and niece, Brad, Adam, Eric, Clay, Jodi; and her great-nephews Kaden and Layne, all of whom she was very close to. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Selman. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Susan's life at Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State St., Geneva, Illinois, on Saturday, August 1. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM (CST), with visitation to follow until 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Susan Selman Classroom Legacy Fund. Gifts to the fund will provide classroom supplies and educational resources for the students taught by Susan's daughter, Savannah, allowing Susan's generosity and love for children to continue making a difference.
