Susana C. Martinez Obituary Susana Cardenas Martinez, age 89, of St. Charles, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feburary 12, 2025 at Alexian Brother s Hospice in Elk Grove Villiage, surrounded by her loving family. She  was born May, 24, 1935 in Valtierria in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Her father Nicholas was a farmer and traveled to the United States as a railroad worker under the bracero program. Her mother Catalina was a caregiver for 14 children of which Susana was the youngest. Susana was known by her family for her strength and courage in  the face of adversity. In 1967, she demonstrated these traits in moving to the United States with her newlywed husband, Jesus R. Martinez. They made a home  in Batavia, Illinois where they joined her sisters Rafaela and Victoria. Together they had three sons: Raul, Roberto and Jose. In her married life, Susanna was a homemaker. She was a lover of flowers (especially gardenians) and a devotee of la Virgen de Guadalupe. Her children remember her grounded presence and her wise advice. She also had a passion for traditional Mexican cooking and a deep respect for Mexican culture. She used her culinary talents to demonstrate her love to others. She had a good sense of humor and saw its value in difficult times. Susanna is among the last in her generation of many siblings. She is survived by her beloved husband Jesus; sons Raul (and girlfriend Lori) of Aurora, Roberto (and husband Peter Godard) of Chicago, and Jose of Wheaton; niece Theresa Melgosa of Batavia; and many other dear relatives and friends. A visitation for Susana will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 9:00 am until the time of her funeral service at 11:00 am at the Malone Funeral Home 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva.
