Thomas Edward Wells

Thomas Edward Wells July 12, 1943 - January 24, 2023

Thomas Edward Wells, 79, of St. Charles passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at his home.  He was born July 12, 1943, in Chicago, IL the son of Thomas Raymond and Lorraine Mathilde (nee Peterson) Wells.  He was united in marriage to Lindley Rae Drew on July 22, 1968, in Aurora, IL.

Tom spent the majority of his career working in the financial sector. After graduating from Northern Illinois University (NIU), he worked in the steel mill at Ryerson Steel. He later worked as a stockbroker for E.F. Hutton, followed by several other positions in banking and finance.

Tom's family admired his various, eclectic interests and the passion with which he took to these. He was an avid bibliophile who cataloged his annual reading, and color-coding book titles to ensure he was broadening his interests. He loved history, and relished holding onto a tangible piece of this through coin collecting, and participating in historical re-enactments. With his interest in politics, he pursued a mayoral run early in his career, narrowly falling short by 78 votes, but kept a passion for politics throughout his life.

Tom was also an athlete throughout his life--the MVP of his Freshman and Sophomore swim teams at NIU and later the captain, he won many titles and accolades with his team. Tom took to canoe racing later in adulthood and excelled in this for decades, making life-long friends along the way. His love of sports extended beyond himself into his enthusiastic support of his children's activities and competitions and as a steadfast super-fan of St. Charles East High School's sporting events.

Above all, Tom defined himself by his family and his faith. He prioritized Bible study and being a part of his church community. He was deeply devoted to his family and grew in adoration of his wife over their 54 years of marriage.

He is survived by his adored wife Lindley Wells; three children, Abby (Troy) Follis, Sarah (Austin) Bredow, and Thomas (Claire) Wells; six grandchildren, Ava Follis, Cayden Follis, Mila Follis, Lilia Bredow, Magdalena Bredow, and Esme Wells; and a brother David (Alice) Wells.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 South Third Street St. Charles, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 30, 2023, at Redeemer Fellowship Church 1125 Oak Street St. Charles, IL.  Interment will follow in Lincoln Memorial Park, Aurora, IL.
