October 26, 1942 - January 25, 2023

Walter Gedwill, 80, from St. Charles, Il, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25 th, 2023. He is survived by his wife Sandy, of 57 years, three children and four grandchildren. Wally was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. He was the only child of Walter and Pauline (nee Wiertick) Gedwill. He went to Bowen HS and attended the University of Illinois and Roosevelt University. On August 21st, 1965, he married Sandra (Sandy nee Andretich) at St. George Catholic Church on the South Side of Chicago; together, they went on to raise three children: Bill, Amy (Tom Collingbourne) and Jay Scott (Virginia). Wally also had four grandchildren, who he adored: Caitlyn (James), Alec, Ryan and Holly.  He spent most of his career in the grain processing industry as a chemist and processing specialist; spending over thirty years with Garvey International. After retiring, he spent years as a volunteer at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva. He loved helping and interacting with the patients and visitors. He was an avid reader and felt at home at the library. Wally’s wealth of knowledge on so many subjects drew amazement and respect from people. No need for Google in our family, we had Wally. He loved to travel, and he and Sandy were frequently boarding an airplane for distant shores; often to visit his children and grandchildren. Wally was a lifelong White Sox fan, which required a lot of patience and hope. That patience paid off when he was able to attend Game 2 of the 2005 World Series and then see the Sox win the world championship. Wally will be dearly missed, but his spirit lives on with a lifetime of loving memories. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, 3:00pm-8:00pm at Yurs Funeral Home of St Charles, 405 East Main St., St. Charles, Il Funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023, 10:30am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 2900 East Main St. St. Charles, Il In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in Walter’s name, to White Sox Charities: charities@whitesox.mlb.comor St. Jude Children’s Hospital: stjude.orgGuest BookShareEmailPrint
