He was born April 2, 1934, in West Chicago, the son of Arthur and Clara (Glasshagel) Fessler. For 47 years, Wayne worked as a dedicated railroad engineer. He truly loved his job—not just the rails and the engines, but the deep camaraderie with the people he worked alongside every day. That same love for connection extended into every corner of his life, especially at Geneva Methodist Church, a place he deeply loved and where he formed many cherished friendships. Wayne never met a stranger; he was a natural listener who genuinely loved hearing other people’s stories and learning about their lives. His honesty, loyalty, and generous heart earned him lifelong friends wherever he went. A true lover of nature, he found peace in the outdoors. He was a passionate gardener who took immense pride in his work, often tending to four full gardens at a single time. He also cherished his time going "up north" to the cabin, where he could drop a fishing line into the water and soak in the quiet majesty of God’s country." For Dad, heading north to the cabin was always more than just a getaway—it was where he felt most at home. And as those trips became a way of life, so did his passion as a fierce Green Bay Packers fan. In his later years, Wayne expressed his deep care for others in a sweet and comforting way: baking pies. If you were feeling down or under the weather, a homemade pie from Wayne was sure to find its way to your doorstep—a simple, warm gesture that perfectly captured his spirit of service. He lived his life with integrity, faith, and an open hand, always putting others before himself. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, service, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years Georgia (Dahlin); children Amy (Rick) Harvey of Sleepy Hollow, Meg (Karl) Henk of Elgin, and Eric (Sharon) of Elburn; grandchildren Christian and Patrick Harvey, and Wade Fessler; sister Murial Otto of Canon City Colorado; and many other dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Phyllis Meyer and Warren. A visitation for Wayne will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 10:00 am until the time of his memorial service at 11:00 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street, Geneva with Pastor Rob Hamilton officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.
