William Richard “Dick” Floyd
August 15, 1939 - April 24, 2025 William Richard “Dick” Floyd, a devoted husband and father, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the age of 85 in Geneva, Illinois, where he resided with his wife, Cynthia, for over 35 years.Born on August 15, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Dick led a full life shaped by his family, avid reading, career, and friends. A graduate of Southern Methodist University, he served in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant E5. In Dallas, Texas, he met Cynthia, and they shared a 59-year marriage. After relocating to Illinois from Texas, they created a home filled with laughter, good times, and lasting memories.Known for his silver “Phil Donahue” hair and photogenic smile, Dick was a familiar and friendly presence. He enjoyed reading mystery novels and biographies, bowling, researching genealogy to uncover family stories, tending to his garden flowers, listening to music, and watching musicals and plays, a passion developed through high school and college speech and drama. He especially cherished spending time with his granddaughters, a joy that brought him immense happiness.Dick was preceded in death by his father, William Odis Floyd; his mother, Dorothy Looney, and her husband, Matthew Looney; and his sister, Phyllis Floyd. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Floyd; his children, Richard, Brian (Rebecca), and Patrick; his grandchildren, Cassie and Audrey; and his sister, Barbara Griego (Leo).Future memorial arrangements are pending.
