Augustine Gregory Murin

Augustine “Gus” Gregory Murin, 76, of Batavia passed away Monday, July 12, 2021, at his home, following a seven-year long and brave battle against leukemia. He was born March 2, 1945, in East Chicago, Indiana, the son of Augustine Sylvester and Genevieve Sophie (Burek) Murin. He was united in marriage to Carol Lee Vinciguerra on January 20, 1966, in Chicago.

He was a man who was never misunderstood; he told it exactly how it was. Gus loved his wife, children, and grandchildren; he was tough on the outside, but like Jello on the inside. Of importance, was that his children become responsible citizens, and they did. In his career, he worked as a Fire Protection Engineer and he enjoyed serving his community as a Police Officer in Calumet City, Illinois for 25 years and at the Fox Valley Park District for nine years. Other than his family his favorite pastime was fishing in the Northwoods chasing the elusive muskies with his “girlfriend” Sylvia, his boat.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; his children, Dawn Murin (Dana Knutson) and Christopher (Suzanne) Murin; two grandchildren, Madeline and Matthew Murin; a sister-in-law, Trudy (Jay) Herbst; and two nephews, Erich Herbst and partner Megan Lundahl and Allen Herbst (Ingrid Hertel).

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Avenue Batavia, Ill.

Funeral services will begin with prayers at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 19, 2021, from Moss Family Funeral Home, before proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church at 2300 Main Street Batavia, Ill. to celebrate Mass at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Geneva, Ill.
