Barbara L. Buckingham, 89, passed away very peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at her home. She was born December 13, 1932 in Chicago, the daughter of Anthony and Antonio ‘Margaret’ (Mihalovich) Rachke. She was united in marriage to William A. Buckingham at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Geneva, Illinois on October 20, 1956.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy came from spending time with family. Everyone would seek her out in times of uncertainty, and she would listen and then give you feedback and a hug. Her guidance through the years was invaluable. Anyone who ever met her loved her instantly. She was so giving to others, always.
In her early years she worked as a bus girl at Mill Race Inn and then Illinois Bell in Geneva. Later, she worked at Wasco School as a teacher’s aide and then Visible Computer in St. Charles before retiring. She enjoyed reading, tennis, bicycling, golf and card games. The family went on many camping trips over the years. When the camper was parked at home, she would sleep in it simply because she loved the sound of rain on the roof.
She is survived by her four children, Janice Buckingham-Shenko, Gary Buckingham, Brent (Anne) Buckingham and Paul (Ellen) Buckingham; grandchildren Jenna and John Shenko, Michael, Brandi, Brittany, Megan, Nicole, Andrew and Jack Buckingham.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband William A. Buckingham.
Per her request, there will be no visitation. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 20th, 2022 from Moss Funeral Home in St. Charles before proceeding to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Crane Road in St. Charles, Illinois. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Internment will be private following Mass at Prairie Cemetery in St. Charles.
