Charles G. Davis

Charles “Chuck”  G. Davis, 92, of Batavia, IL passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Michaelson Care Center in Batavia, IL.  Chuck was born on April 27, 1929 in Freeport, IL, the son of Carl and Isabelle (nee. Brubaker) Davis.  He was united in marriage to Fern Thiede on April 8, 1951 in Carpentersville, IL.

Chuck was drafted into the Army while in college, which wreaked havoc with his wedding plans!  He and Fern were married earlier than planned and Chuck served his tour of duty immediately after graduating. For most of his business career he worked at CNA Insurance in business administration and management. He enjoyed it most when teaching how to become better managers, particularly emphasizing how to bring out the best in people through respect and encouragement. Chuck took this philosophy and applied it to everything he did: mission work at home and abroad, developing a nationwide program to share his love of Jesus and teach others how to share their love, photographing residents and events at the Holmstad, leading Bible studies, managing the Holmstad Home Store, and assisting in the computer lab.  Even in the little things--delivering mail, feeding the fish and sending greeting cards--he was always trying to lift people up and help them recognize how special they are.

True strength isn't measured by how much you can lift; it's measured by how many you lift up.  God shone through everything Chuck did...and that made him a mighty man.

Chuck is survived by his three children, John (Sheri) Davis, Janet (Jim) Bryant and Susan (John) Gautille; his five grandchildren, Isabel (Cory) Cantarella, Glenn (Maria) Davis, Alyssa Davis, Erin Gautille and Nicholas Gautille; two great grandchildren, Adelae Davis-Zuligar and Booker Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Fern Davis; his brother, Robert Davis; three grandchildren, Karmyn Gautille, David Gautille and Joshua Gautille.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. 60510.  Memorial service and burial will be held with the family at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Holmstad Benevolent Care Fund in Chuck’s honor.
