Daniel L. Cate

Daniel L. Cate, 70, of North Aurora, IL., passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, surrounded by his family at Silverado Memory Care Community in St. Charles, IL. Daniel was born in June of 1951, in Elmhurst, IL.  He was united in marriage to Ranae Kimball, in October of 1969.

Daniel had many passions. He loved music, particularly the Blues. If it had rhythm, he was on his feet dancing with a huge smile on his face. He would often accompany his favorite songs with his harmonica(s), one in every key. He had a generous laugh and sharp witted humor, a fantastic joke teller he often buckled in laughter before the punchline, which was even more memorable than the joke itself.

Daniel loved being physically active. At age 39 he got his black belt in Hapkido. He loved to share self- defense moves with his family and friends, just in case they ever needed it.

A big part of his life was his 46 year commitment to his career as a Maintenance Engineer at General Mills. He forged many friendships with his “other family.” He loved the various people he met and worked with over the years that introduced him to “new to him” food, spice (the spicier the better), culture and other languages.

Daniel was an avid bicyclist. Any given day he would be on a joyous ride on the Fox River Trail for endless miles and smiles, never slowing along the way. Daniel will be fondly remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest, loved the deepest. His love of family was only exceeded by his love for the Lord.

Daniel volunteered his time at Wayside Cross Ministries, sharing his faith while visiting inmates at the Kane County Jail.

Daniel is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Ranae Cate; his three children, Angelicque (fiancée, Tom Lee) Cate, Bryan (Shannon) Cate and Casparus Cate; his brother, Stephen (Melia) Cate., sister Carla and brother Tim.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. 60510.  A memorial service will follow at 4:00 P.M. also at the funeral home.  Interment will be held privately.   In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Daniel’s name may be made to Wayside Cross Ministries, 215 E.
