Dolores V. Lavery

Dolores V. Lavery, 98, of Batavia passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born February 26, 1924, in Chicago, IL the daughter of Elmer Victor and Hannah (Peterson) Johnsen.  She was united in marriage to Andrew Lavery June 29, 1940, in Chicago, IL.

Dolores was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Batavia.  A career woman with great drive and a wonderful inspiring personality she was employed by Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora. She had a successful career as the Director of Recreation until her retirement in 1986.  With enormous energy Dolores was active her entire life.  She was a member of many clubs including past president of PTA both at Alice Gustafson School and Batavia High School.  She was also a member of many card clubs.  During her retirement Dolores continued her activities and her outgoing personality, she stayed active writing short stories of her early years living in Chicago.  When Dolores was in her 90’s she continued her education at Waubonsee Community College taking a class in advance writing.  Always adventurous, Dolores traveled most of the United States, Canada, Mexico a cruise to Italy, Croatia and numerous weekend excursions.  Although she was always busy her most precious time was spent with her loving family and her adored grandchildren. 

She is survived by her six children, Bonny Luck, Hannah (Thomas) Miller, Erick (Donna Woods) Lavery, Val (Randy) Korstick, Dorothy (Tom) Billeter, Lori (Joey Delahunt) Ginsburg, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. 

In addition to her parents and her husband Andrew, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Andrea King, her grandson, Todd Buri, and her siblings Violet, Lloyd, Pearl, Dolly, Eleanor, and Glenn.

Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M 8:00 P.M. Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL.     

Funeral services will begin with prayers 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 21, 2022, from Moss Family Funeral Home 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL, before proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church to celebrate Mass at 10:30 A.M.  Interment will follow at West Batavia Cemetery, Batavia, IL.
