Garlan Scollon
November 28, 1940 - May 16, 2022 Garlan “Scotty” Joseph Scollon, 81, of Batavia passed away Monday, May 16, 2022, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. Scotty was born in Springfield, MO the son of James Vernon and Ruth Margrethe (Carstensen) Scollon. He was united in marriage to Maureen K. Flesberg July 1, 1962, in Macomb, IL. Scotty started his career in education as an industrial arts teacher. After three years of educating our young in Central Illinois, he moved to Batavia to develop the industrial arts program at the Batavia High School. He loved to motivate students both in the classroom and on the court or field as a coach and teacher. He later took his talents into a corporate career as an Industrial Engineering Executive for Ripple Architectural Metals. He was a natural leader both in education and as an executive. He loved to spend his mornings sipping coffee at the Batavia McDonalds, telling jokes having a few laughs but most importantly learning more about the happenings of Batavia. He is survived by his wife Maureen; two children Michelle (Bradley) Campbell, Michael (Arvilla) Scollon; four grandchildren, Nicole (Nathan) Lynch, Mitchell Scollon, Ryan Campbell and Megan Campbell; two sisters Kathleen Lynch and Marlys Thompson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two sisters, Margaret Bagby, and Celia Robertson. Visitation will be held 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. Friday, May 20, 2022, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 4:00 P.M. A private Interment will be held at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Wenona, IL at a later date. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation that truly makes a difference. |
